Ready for some fun? These lumpy bumpy batts are made from wool and alpaca. The wool is from Freaky Franky, the Cormo/Border Leicester/Shetland cross. Her fleece is VERY fine and soft and very fun. BUT it is so fine that the ends did suffer some damage in her adventures around our farm. So there are going to be neps and noils. You can pick them out or you do like me and spin them in for some lovely character. Either way, her fleece has tons and tons of memory and crimp, making a glorious bouncy yarn. After spinning Frankie's wool pure, I did add quite a bit of medium fineness ivory alpaca to this blend to give it a little more drape and flow.
Even though these batts are made with fine wool, the wool is home processed from pasture raised sheep and will include some VM, neps, and noils. Therefore, it is more suited to rustic spinning and spinners who like a challenge and some nubs and slubs in their yarn.
The Little Farm: Our farm is the happy home of a small flock of scratch and dent, down on their luck, and ready for retirement angora and pygmy angora cross goats and Shetland sheep. They are adorable and silly and sweet. They serve the dual purpose of keeping our non arable land mowed and producing high quality, super fine, luxury mohair and wool for spinners, dyers, weaver, and other fiber artists.
