Raw Shetland Wool from Nemo sold by the 1/2 fleece. I split the fleeces down the back, so each half includes neck, back, and britch. For Shetlands there is variability in crimp and length throughout the fleece. The neck is very soft and somewhat shorter, the back has a lot of crimp and is also fine, and the britch can be slightly coarser but is also much longer.

Nemo has a nice fine to medium fleece that is lovely to handspin, but my favorite part of it is how long the staple length is. At around 5 inches, it is a lot of fun to blend with locks from angora goats or teeswater sheep and spin without a ton of twist to make fluffy airy yarn.

We do not coat our sheep. Since we take in a lot of scratch and dent and down on their luck animals, we offer hay year-round. The goal is chubby, healthy, happy animals, and it it is hard for them to be happy in a coat in our 100 degree august afternoons.

The Little FarmOur farm is the happy home of a small flock of scratch and dent, down on their luck, and ready for retirement angora, cashgora, and pygmy angora cross goats and Shetland sheep. They are adorable and silly and sweet. They serve the dual purpose of keeping our non arable land mowed and producing high quality, super fine, luxury mohair and wool for spinners, dyers, weaver, and other fiber artists.
